				<title>Resumen</title>
				<p>Dado que el n&#xfa;mero de estudios sobre el fitoplancton de la Serran&#xed;a de Cuenca ha sido muy reducido hasta la fecha, esta nota describe las condiciones f&#xed;sico-qu&#xed;micas, la flora fitoplanct&#xf3;nica y su biovolumen estival en siete de sus ambientes estancados, enclavados en un territorio calizo donde la despoblaci&#xf3;n y el subsiguiente abandono de la agricultura y la ganader&#xed;a han reducido mucho el impacto humano. Como consecuencia, se trata de especies indicadoras de aguas muy limpias, ricas en organismos flagelados, y que incluyen algunos taxones raros. El biovolumen es escaso y est&#xe1; aparentemente controlado por el f&#xf3;sforo. Estos ecosistemas son merecedores de estudios m&#xe1;s amplios y detallados sobre su flora algol&#xf3;gica, que probablemente den lugar a la descripci&#xf3;n de nuevos taxones y de nuevas citas de especies poco frecuentes. </p>

				<title>Abstract</title>
				<p>Since the number of studies on the phytoplankton of Serran&#xed;a de Cuenca (central Spain) has been scarce, this is an attempt to increase our knowledge by describing the physico-chemistry, phytoplankton flora and biomass of seven stagnant environments in summer. They are located in a karstic depopulated area where abandonment of crops and livestock has resulted in decreasing human impacts. As a result, flagellate-rich taxa indicating clean waters are dominant, showing some rare species as well. Biomass is low and seemingly limited by phosphorus. These environments are worth of wider and detailed studies on its algal flora, which will probably result in the description of novel phytoplankton taxa and new records of rare species.</p>

		<p>Durante las &#xfa;ltimas d&#xe9;cadas hemos asistido a un empeoramiento generalizado de la calidad de las aguas dulces en todo el mundo, una de cuyas consecuencias est&#xe1; siendo la reducci&#xf3;n en la riqueza taxon&#xf3;mica global de las algas dulceacu&#xed;colas (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Geissler 1988</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Brodie <italic>&amp; al.</italic> 2009</xref>), fitoplancton incluido (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B27">Tyler &amp; Wickman 1988</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Borics <italic>&amp; al.</italic> 2020</xref>). En ocasiones, ocurre tambi&#xe9;n un cambio en la flora de esos organismos, el cual se manifiesta mediante especies de amplio espectro ecol&#xf3;gico, indicadoras adem&#xe1;s de caracter&#xed;sticas eutr&#xf3;ficas (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">&#xc1;lvarez Cobelas <italic>&amp; al.</italic> 2020a</xref>). Por ello, la existencia de ecosistemas planct&#xf3;nicos poco o nada afectados todav&#xed;a por el impacto humano los vuelve m&#xe1;s interesantes desde el &#xe1;ngulo bot&#xe1;nico, a la par que m&#xe1;s valiosos de cara a su conservaci&#xf3;n. Uno de ellos es la Serran&#xed;a de Cuenca, un territorio bastante limpio, favorecido por la imparable disminuci&#xf3;n de la poblaci&#xf3;n y el abandono de actividades hist&#xf3;ricamente m&#xe1;s importantes, como la agricultura y la ganader&#xed;a (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Cava 1994</xref>). Se trata de un &#xe1;mbito calizo bien conocido desde el punto de vista de la Fanerogamia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Caballero 1941</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">1943</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">1945</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Mayoral 2011</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">G&#xf3;mez Serrano &amp; Mayoral 2013</xref>). Su n&#xfa;mero de ambientes acu&#xe1;ticos estancados resulta notable (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B16">Cirujano 1994</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B20">Guerra 1999</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Evangelio &amp; D&#xed;az Mart&#xed;nez 2017</xref>), pero la mayor&#xed;a son temporales y carecen de agua en verano. </p>
		<p>El estudio del fitoplancton de la Serran&#xed;a ha sido limitado, aunque desde los &#xfa;ltimos a&#xf1;os existan datos p&#xfa;blicos -obtenidos por las Confederaciones Hidrogr&#xe1;ficas y de calidad irregular- debidos a la obligaci&#xf3;n de la Directiva-Marco europea sobre el Agua y su calidad. El trabajo m&#xe1;s antiguo publicado con informaci&#xf3;n fitoplanct&#xf3;nica de este territorio es el realizado en la laguna de El Tobar y sus alrededores por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Caballero (1942)</xref>, cuyos taxones indicaban eutrofia, probablemente debida a contaminaci&#xf3;n agraria, pues todos los alrededores de dicha laguna se hallaban cultivados en aquel tiempo (&#xc1;lvarez Cobelas &amp; Rojo 2020a). Despu&#xe9;s, se han publicado datos aislados de fitoplancton en los trabajos de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B23">Miracle <italic>&amp; al.</italic> (1993</xref>) y <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">Camacho <italic>&amp; al.</italic> (2002; laguna de El Tobar)</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Kiss <italic>&amp; al.</italic> (2006; laguna del Marquesado)</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">CHT (2012</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">2018; laguna de El Tobar)</xref> y datos en las hojas &#x201c;web&#x201d; de la Confederaci&#xf3;n Hidrogr&#xe1;fica del Tajo (<ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.chtajo.es/LaCuenca/CalidadAgua/Resultados_Informes/Paginas/RISupPotencialEmbalses.aspx">http://www.chtajo.es/LaCuenca/CalidadAgua/Resultados_Informes/Paginas/RISupPotencialEmbalses.aspx#Informes</ext-link>; embalse de La Tosca) y de la Confederaci&#xf3;n Hidrogr&#xe1;fica del J&#xfa;car (<ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://www.chj.es/es-es/medioambiente/redescontrol/Paginas/InformeSuperficialProtegidas.aspx">https://www.chj.es/es-es/medioambiente/redescontrol/Paginas/InformeSuperficialProtegidas.aspx</ext-link>; embalse de La Toba, lagunas de U&#xf1;a y del Marquesado). Nuestro objetivo ha sido, por tanto, referir el fitoplancton de estos enclaves a&#xfa;n pr&#xed;stinos y dejar constancia de su biodiversidad y de las condiciones ambientales en las que se encuentran.</p>
		<p>Durante agosto de 2017 recorrimos las cuencas hidrogr&#xe1;ficas principales de la Serran&#xed;a, tomando muestras superficiales de agua (1 L) y fitoplancton (250 mL) y midiendo variables <italic>in situ</italic> en sus siete ecosistemas estancados con agua permanente (<xref ref-type="table" rid="t1">Tabla 1</xref>), procurando tomar las muestras a m&#xe1;s de 50 metros de cualquier orilla para evitar capturar las algas litorales tanto planct&#xf3;nicas como bent&#xf3;nicas. Las muestras de agua fueron congeladas inmediatamente y m&#xe1;s tarde se determinaron en ellas los nutrientes totales y disueltos, siguiendo procedimientos estandarizados (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">APHA 2005</xref>). La temperatura del agua, el ox&#xed;geno disuelto, el pH y la conductividad se midieron en el mismo momento de la toma de muestras de agua usando equipos de campo. En <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">&#xc1;lvarez Cobelas <italic>&amp; al.</italic> (2020b)</xref> pueden leerse los pormenores metodol&#xf3;gicos de todos esos an&#xe1;lisis conjuntamente con el estudio sobre el medio abi&#xf3;tico y la exportaci&#xf3;n de nutrientes en las cuencas hidrogr&#xe1;ficas donde se enclavan dichos ambientes estancados. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">&#xc1;lvarez Cobelas &amp; Rojo (2023)</xref> realizan un estudio sobre las algas bent&#xf3;nicas de dichos ambientes y de los fluviales de la Serran&#xed;a. </p>

		<p>Las muestras de fitoplancton fueron fijadas con lugol y estudiadas mediante un microscopio invertido Zeiss-35. Se midieron 20 individuos de cada tax&#xf3;n a 1000x en cada muestra, lo cual permiti&#xf3; estimar su biovolumen asemej&#xe1;ndolo a figuras geom&#xe9;tricas sencillas (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B25">Rott 1981</xref>). Tambi&#xe9;n se cuantific&#xf3; su densidad, contando 400 espec&#xed;menes de cada especie por muestra siempre que fue posible. Ambas variables permitieron estimar el total de biovolumen fitoplanct&#xf3;nico como mm<sup>3</sup>/L (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B25">Rott 1981</xref>); teniendo en cuenta que la densidad aproximada del fitoplancton es igual a 1 kg/L (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B24">Reynolds 2006</xref>), resultar&#xed;a f&#xe1;cil transformar esos datos en biomasa si se desease.</p>
		<p>Ambientalmente, se trata de ecosistemas situados en un pa&#xed;s calizo, cuya qu&#xed;mica nutritiva muestra valores muy bajos de todas las variables (<xref ref-type="table" rid="t2">Tabla 2</xref>), a pesar de estar situados en cuencas relativamente grandes. No padecen contaminaci&#xf3;n, ni agraria, ni urbana, a juzgar por las cifras de nitrato, amonio o f&#xf3;sforo total. Solo el embalse de La Tosca muestra cifras ligeramente m&#xe1;s elevadas de la concentraci&#xf3;n de nutrientes, pero siguen siendo bajas. La relaci&#xf3;n nutritiva nitr&#xf3;geno:f&#xf3;sforo indica una intensa limitaci&#xf3;n del crecimiento vegetal por el f&#xf3;sforo (N:P &gt;&gt; 16; <xref ref-type="table" rid="t2">Tabla 2</xref>).</p>

		<p>La flora estival ascendi&#xf3; a 65 taxones, de los cuales los m&#xe1;s abundantes fueron las Clorof&#xed;ceas (25 taxones) con riquezas notables en todos los dem&#xe1;s grupos con representantes flagelados (Criptof&#xed;ceas, Dinof&#xed;ceas, Crisof&#xed;ceas, Euglenof&#xed;ceas; <xref ref-type="table" rid="t3">Tabla 3</xref>). Las Diatomeas, sin embargo, estuvieron poco representadas, quiz&#xe1; por el momento del a&#xf1;o, cuya estratificaci&#xf3;n t&#xe9;rmica las perjudica. Tambi&#xe9;n hubo relativamente pocas Cianof&#xed;ceas, posiblemente por la escasez de nutrientes (<xref ref-type="table" rid="t3">Tabla 3</xref>). Los g&#xe9;neros m&#xe1;s abundantes fueron los de la Crisof&#xed;cea <italic>Dinobryon</italic>, la Criptof&#xed;cea <italic>Cryptomonas</italic> y el Dinoflagelado <italic>Peridinium</italic>, todos los cuales son organismos con movimiento propio gracias a los flagelos. La citada Crisof&#xed;cea es t&#xed;pica de ambientes oligotr&#xf3;ficos (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B28">Will&#xe9;n 2000</xref>). Las floras m&#xe1;s parecidas entre s&#xed; fueron las de la laguna de U&#xf1;a y el embalse de La Toba (cociente de Jaccard = 0,50), bastante cercanos geogr&#xe1;ficamente. En cualquier caso, la flora de los siete ambientes estudiados es idiosincr&#xe1;tica y abona la noci&#xf3;n de metacomunidad aplicada al fitoplancton de un territorio que comparte muchas caracter&#xed;sticas ambientales (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B26">Soininen <italic>&amp; al.</italic> 2011</xref>), como es el caso de la Serran&#xed;a conquense.</p>

		<p>En cuanto a la biovolumen, estuvo entre 0,01 y 0,37 mm<sup>3</sup>/L (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f1">Fig. 1</xref>), siendo el embalse de La Tosca el que mostr&#xf3; un valor m&#xe1;s alto. De todos modos, esas cifras son t&#xed;picas de ambientes ultra- y oligotr&#xf3;ficos (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B28">Will&#xe9;n 2000</xref>). La dominancia en biovolumen de los grandes grupos taxon&#xf3;micos se debi&#xf3; a Criptof&#xed;ceas y Dinoflagelados en El Tobar y La Ruidera, Clorof&#xed;ceas en La Tosca y Molino de Chincha, Diatomeas en U&#xf1;a y Marquesado y Dinoflagelados y flagelados indeterminados en La Toba.</p>

		<p>Esta nota quiere poner de relieve el inter&#xe9;s de unos ambientes planct&#xf3;nicos escasamente conocidos hasta ahora, los cuales se ubican en una zona muy poco afectada por el ser humano y cuyo buen estado ecol&#xf3;gico vale la pena conservar. Sin embargo, aqu&#xed; solo se han considerado los que tienen agua en verano. En primavera, hay una gran cantidad de dolinas de distintos tama&#xf1;os que albergan agua y cuyas floras vegetales resultar&#xe1;n, a buen seguro, fascinantes, pero est&#xe1;n a&#xfa;n por estudiar. Desde el punto de vista algol&#xf3;gico, merece rese&#xf1;arse tambi&#xe9;n que la Serran&#xed;a de Cuenca es refugio de taxones raros, como ha sido el caso de la diatomea <italic>Cyclotella plitvicensis</italic> Hustedt, descrita inicialmente para el fitoplancton de los lagos croatas de Plitvice y citada de la laguna del Marquesado (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Kiss <italic>&amp; al.</italic> 2006</xref>). </p>
